From a recent article by Mia Lee in Contemporary European History titled “Nazis in the Middle East: Assessing Links Between Nazism and Islam”:
…Rubin and Schwanitz also examine how the Third Reich planned to extend its racial policies. For instance, they elaborate on the role of SS officer Walter Rauff, who was sent to Tunisia in 1942. Rauff had previously headed the Reich Security Head Office (Reichssicherheitshauptamt), during which time he had overseen the design and implementation of the mobile killing vans used by the mobile killing units (Einsatzgruppen) in the Soviet territories. 2 Rubin and Schwanitz claim he was responsible for killing 2,500 Jews in German-occupied North Africa from 1942–1943.
Some of the most shocking revelations in the book include the personal relationship between Hitler and Husaini (whom Hitler had pronounced an honorary Aryan). In a meeting in 1941, when Hitler was still extorting Jewish money that paid for some exit permits for Jews, Husaini objected. He said that Hitler should exterminate them or else they would come to Palestine…The connection between the Nazis and the Muslim World is alive and well, but is doomed to the same end that the Nazis earned.
“This is a definitive book on this very current subject.”
